I understand what you’re saying, but disagree that repressive regimes should be given a free pass because others are worse, and we’re in no position to make ethical judgements. “We” are not responsible for the actions of “our” government, and by limiting your perspective to just America, you offer no solutions. The problems around the world and interrelated, and this can be seen in the rise of the far-Right in many countries. Repressed and victimized people need to unite across national borders and support each other to bring about real change.
