Thanks for making this distinction. The other day I was called a ‘Karen’ online by a man because I disagreed with his views about lockdown. He claimed the virus was 'nothing' and that it was all being blown way out of proportion because only the old and sick were dying. When I asked how caring about people made me entitled and demanding he had no response. ‘Karen’ is definitely used by some to try to silence women.
I have no problem with people being called out for being assholes but it’s the gendered nature of the meme which bothers me. Working in customer service I see just as many male ‘Karens’ so I think either the name should be used for both genders or there needs to be a male equivalent, like Kevin.
