Yes I agree we have both been childish. Thanks your your detailed response. My initial comment that those who don’t like the show lack humour was a joke. I never dreamed someone would consider it insulting. The OP clearly has a sense of humour as her article was written in a satirical tone and I thought she’d take it in the spirit it was intended. Her race had nothing to do with it. I find it quite bizarre that you’ve brought this up considering she doesn’t even touch on race in her article. Are you seriously implying that POC shoould be treated differently and comments moderated to avoid offence (real or imagined) because ofrace, even when race is not the subject of the discussion? It’s this extreme sensitivity bordering on ridiculous which has driven people into the arms of Republicans. Of course there are people who dislike the show for a whole range of reasons and have different tastes in comedy. It was the tone of your reply which got my hackles up. I love the show because it shows a world without homophobia or racism and gives a glimpse of what the world could be like if these things didn’t exist. Aspects of the show are definitely problematic but I don’t think the whole show should be dismissed because of this, but obviously you’re entitled to your opinion. What pisses me off more than anything is the way identity politics have been used to obscure class issues and divide people in order to maintain the status quo. Both political parties are complicit in this and many of those on the 'woke' side of politics love to pat themselved on the back for championing race issues while having no intention of addressing the structural causes of racism. On saying that though I can appreciate many of your points and as a cultural studies major I’m very well versed in these types of analysis. I recently read a very good critique on here on race in Bridgerton and I definitely recognise the role of culture in reflecting and shaping people’s perceptions. FYI I’m extremely sleep deprived at the moment which partly explains my reaction to your comment.
