You didn’t answer my question about why you’re engaged in this debate if you believe there’s no real support for socialism in the US. Your obviously running scared just like Trump in his state of the union speech this year.

Look out, the big bad bogeyman is coming to take everything you’ve earned. I’d love to know what your great contribution is to society and why you deserve more than the low paid essential workers who will never get ahead now matter how hard they work. Poverty is structural not a matter of personal choice and I’d bet money you’ve had a very privileged life, but see everything you have as a result of your ‘hard work.’

The capitalist system cannot be reformed. The pursuit of profit has destroyed the environment and raped the third world. The gap between the rich and poor has accelerated and the US is one of the most dysfunctional countries in the world, as seen in the massive prison population, courtesy of for-profit prisons and the shambolic response to COVID. Trump is not an abberation, he is the embodiment of this corrupt, venal system you worship.

If Marx was so wrong why did he predict the polarization of wealth, the rise of finance capital and the emergence of the oligarchy?

Communism is an international movement that aims to do away with the nation state. It’s the only movement that can unite people across race, nationality and gender lines, something that terrifies people like you. Its why the American government has violently quashed every left-wing movement it can, because they are petrified of the vast majority of the world’s population recognising that capitalism isn’t working for them and there has to be a better way.

But who cares about any of that when you’ve got personal wealth to defend right? Rosa Luxemburg said it’s either socialism or barbarism, and you sir have come down well and truly on the side of the barbarians. If (when?) push comes to shove you’ll be boarding the fascist train without a backward glance.

It might interest you to know, according to Hermann Goring, the reason the German elite decided to co-operate with the Nazis because they promised to repress communists, who were among the first to be sent to the gas chambers. Fascism has everything to do with the need to quash workers movements and prevent the spread of communism, which is one of the reasons Stalinism was able to take hold. You won’t read much about this in the history books due to the massive propaganda campaign undertaken to confuse public opinion and scare people away from communism, but the facts are all there in plain sight.
